Collecting Royal Doulton items can bring much enjoyment and personal satisfaction.
Most Royal Doulton items available today are of the "HN" series. In 1913, Harry Nixon,
a Royal Doulton artist and designer devised a numbering system using his initials "HN"
on each of the items produced. It was a wonderful way of chronolically numbering
figurines which was in use until 1940 after which a blocks of numbers was assigned to
each modeler of the figures for a time period.
Collecting Royal Doulton, can be an exciting hobby, avocation and business. It can fill
spare time, if you have it. If you plan on collecting Royal Doulton, you must buy a
reference book that is available in book stores and on the internet, especially Ebay.
In my opinion, Charlton published about the most complete texts available. Charlton
books cover almost all the collectibles that Royal Doulton produced and has accomplished
a marvelous reference collection. You must search all the books that Charlton produces
and then make your selections.
Once you buy the Charlton book of Figurines, you'll see what I mean. Each category lists
the figurines produced by name and goes into great detail where possible.
M - Series: Miniature figurines that have their counterparts in the HN series.
CL - Classique Series:
Age of Chivalry:
Age of Innocence:
Age of Jazz:
Art Deco:
Art is Life:
Bathers Collection:
Beggar's Opera:
Arnold Bennett:
British Sporting Heritage:
Character Scuptures (resin):
The list goes on and on. Buy the Book! Collecting isn't the same without it.
No, I don't work for Charlton, but I sure do appreciate what they've done.
